Timeline of Major <b>P</b>an<b>P</b>acific<b>D</b>defense<b>C</b>orps related World Events )

AU Creation Guidelines:

The above is a guideline for events and locations of most, but not all, attacks occurring up until the in game point of February, 2020.

When establishing a character AU in this universe, take into account where you choose to have them physically located/their origin point, what their age would have been at the time of the first Kaiju attack, and what changes they might have experienced in their world afterward.

Once the Jaeger Program was running live, people found more confidence in survival. The Jaegers were taking down the Kaiju, and at this point, there hasn't been a turnaround where Jaegers have started losing. There's been one incident of a Category IV Kaiju, and no real thought put into how it took three Jaegers working together in order to bring it down.

As of game opening, recruits are looking at participating in a program that has a high allure of fame and a certain sexiness to the propaganda attached. As Raleigh says in the film, Jaeger Pilots are "Rock Stars." They're larger than life personalities doing larger than life work, and they haven't lost yet.

Any questions in regards to helping establish your character in an AU for this universe may be asked in the comments of this page. Keep in mind that the K.I.S.S. rule (Keep It Simple Silly) is your best friend. Maintaining canon relationships is not a priority! Those are best hashed out in details if and when people app canonmates to the game, and there will be "hash out past CR" memes that will go up in the Out of Character community to help facilitate this kind of world building.

The application for this game requires a two to three paragraph short character bio. Where they were born, where they grew up, whatever major life defining things happened (if any), and what and how the Kaiju factored into their life should be the main focus. Don't worry about exactly recreating a canon environment. In many cases, that will prove next to impossible. Focus on who your character is and what sort of personality traits and circumstances figured into the equation.

Also of note are the numerous propaganda displays made by the Pan Pacific Defense Corps over the last six, seven years since their founding. Merchandise of the Jaegers, former Kaiju, and the pilots can be found worldwide, and public appearances by Jaegar Pilots are treated as major events. Everyone knows something about what the Jaeger Pilots are doing, or what the PPDC is doing, though opinions are not uniform. How your character feels about the toy lines and clothing lines and the commercialization of the Kaiju threat is individual and unique to them.

Some basic Kaiju information your character will probably be aware of includes the following: Kaiju are creatures of a highly toxic nature and have been categorized on the "Serizawa Scale". Each Kaiju is classified under five different categories. Categories I and II represent the weakest of the Kaiju, while Categories III through V are the strongest. The Serizawa Scale measures water displacement, toxicity and ambient radiation levels given off by their bodies when they pass through the breach. The fluid of a Kaiju is ammonia-based.

Upon decomposing, their bodies release a noxious agent into the air known as "Kaiju Blue", their blood. Kaiju Blue has the ability to contaminate the air and its immediate environment, making it uninhabitable. The blood of a Kaiju is highly acidic, corroding anything in its path. This makes it especially hard to gather samples safely for examination and experimentation. As a result, Jaegers have been equipped with weapons that cauterize wounds they inflict on Kaiju to prevent the spread of their highly acidic internal fluids. As silicon-based organisms, the design of their bodies makes it difficult to determine and study particular parts of their internal systems.

Mandatory for All Cadets of All Ages
The following courses and activities are considered mandatory for all Cadets within the Pan Pacific Defense Corps Jaeger Academy:
  • Swimming lessons. Rangers are required to know how to handle open sea swimming and survival and fitness skills.
  • Diving Lessons, as contingent upon performance from Swimming Lessons. Will include both free diving, scuba diving, and deep sea diving familiarity.
  • Officer training. Recruits study tactics, engineering, and basic Kaiju science. Should they make the cut, they move on to Pons training.
  • Kwoon Combat Room training. Trainees are required to master an array of combat disciplines to properly condition their bodies for battle in Jaeger. These include a total unconscious mastery of the 52 positions of Jaeger Bushido. Candidates will then be matched against each other in training battles to assess drift compatibility. Drift compatibility is measured through brain scans, personality screenings and observations of the training ground during their trial period in the shatterdome.
Upon completion of the first cut, on average three months into Cadet training, the following courses and activities are considered mandatory:
  • Drift Sync Testing/Pons training. Recruits train in the mock-pod simulator and learn how to drift with their potential partner(s). Trainees are required to master their minds while a commanding officer of the PPDC observes in preparation for the Jaeger’s two-pilot system. The quicker they are inside the simulation, the better the synchronization is likely to be. A vast majority will be cut here.
Upon completion of the second cut, if a Cadet does not choose to be reassigned during the above time period, the following courses and activities are considered mandatory:
  • Jaeger training/Ranger Ready. The few recruits who make the second cut are allowed to start logging time on the test range in an actual Jaeger.
  • Drivesuit Testing. Trainees are made familiar with the mechanics of a Drivesuit and unpredictable nature of combat within a Conn-Pod. How quickly they react to a loss of a balance of systems control within the Jaeger sets them apart from the rest of their colleagues.
Secondary Requirements for All Cadets of All Ages
The following courses and activities are considered secondary requirements for all Cadets within the Pan Pacific Defense Corps Jaeger Academy:
  • English lessons. A crash course in English reading, writing, and speaking, any and all individuals who do not have English as one of their fluent languages will be automatically enrolled. Assessment tests will be performed upon Academy entrance to determine relevant level of English knowledge.
  • Condensed Physics & Mathematics Tutoring. Assessment tests will be performed upon Academy entrance to determine current level of knowledge in regards to Physics and Mathematics as is deemed necessary for a basic understanding the engineering and piloting of a Jaeger.
Electives will be offered covering a variety of subjects, including the local dialect of Spanish spoken in Valparaíso, Chile.

OOC Timetable for moving through the Jaeger Academy
The following is a rough timetable of the projected course of a Player Character (PC) through the Jaeger Academy:
  • Month 1-3: Characters will be considered to be in a trial state at this time, having passed an initial Drift Compatibility Potential test in their home country. This is considered the first make-it-or-break-it run, and Cadets who do not make the first cut are encouraged to join in with different areas of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. As a player, it means the decision to move your character from the Ranger program into any of the following is made after your character has been in game for three (3) months:
    • Jaeger Academy Staff.
Including positions such as Kwoon Fightmaster, Assault Specialists, Psych Analysts, and Conn-Pod Control Instructors.
    • K-Science: Kaiju detection and analysis.
Including divisions such as K-Watch, Kaiju Bio-Harvester, Hazmat Officer, and Cryptozoologists.
    • J-Tech: Jaeger Systems and Robotics.
Including divisions such as Weapons Specialist, Jaeger Engineer, Battle Programmer, and Neural Bridge Operator.
    • Strike Groups: Deployment and Combat.
Including divisions such as PPDC Strike Troopers, LOCCENT Mission Controllers, Jumphawk pilots, and the remainder of the command structure of the PPDC.
The divide between each is not as clear as it may seem. Characters with a good mind for tactics and strategy may find themselves working in the LOCCENT as part of mission control, or crossing over into J-Tech depending on preference and areas of interest.

  • Month 4+: Characters in a high school age range who have not yet graduated from high school will be enrolled into the PPDC Academy and given a high quality education while continuing to operate within the confines of whatever career program they remain in. In other words, they'll now be going to school full time along with training and volunteering time with the branch of the PPDC they want to work with after graduation. For Jaeger Academy students, it means continuing Kwoon Combat Room Training and logging hours in the simulators around their academic schedules.

For students at a University level of schooling, they will have a choice of attending one of the local Universities around a similar sort of schedule as those in high school. There is a greater degree of freedom offered to University students, as they will be taking courses off the Shatterdome base, but they are expected to maintain week-day curfew unless they apply for a special accommodation from the stand-in for Marshall Pentecost at the Shatterdome.

For working age professionals and those with families, enduring the first three months of training will qualify them to remain in the program of their choice. Should they still be in the Jaeger Academy hoping to be a Ranger, they'll be encouraged to help train new recruits in the Jaeger Academy while maintaining their own training regimen. They're in the fine tuning and testing phase.

Should any in the Jaeger Academy find their Drift Partner after the three month mark, they will be considered for live field training in a semi-retired Mock-II after completing the second cut.

Section 1: Mission & Philosophy
Born out of a need to preserve the shared values of our allied countries, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps Jaeger Academy fills an important role in the spectrum of education and defense training against the Kaiju. PPDC JA emulates the high ideals and long standing traditions of our United Nations, teaching its Cadets to stretch their mental, physical, cultural, and spiritual boundaries to their greatest potential.

The Jaeger Academy is committed to academic excellence and to the development in our Cadets of self-discipline and a sense of responsibility toward the global community at large. As a player in this game, you agree to:
  • Treat yourself and fellow players with respect.
  • Communicate problems you may have with the person(s) responsible, or, failing that, with the moderators.
  • Refrain from god moding, god modding, info modding, or strong-arming fellow players into going along with your ideas or under your presumptions about what is IC for their characters. In other words ask, don't tell.
  • Remain faithful to the basic tenets of your character's personality.
  • Follow the OOC Community for any and all game updates.
  • Maintain an IC contact post, Critique post, and Permissions post for all characters currently active in game.

Permissions posts should include: contact and timezone information, backtagging, personality traits or history that others should be aware of, acts you may feel uncomfortable playing out, etc. Minor violence such as encountered in hand-to-hand combat training or physical altercations outside of training areas will be expected and should not require permission to instigate. Major violence should be cleared with involved players and in some cases, mods.

  • Lock to the community, place behind a cut, and appropriately warn in the subject line for all logs containing graphic depictions of violence, gore, and/or sexual contact. For purposes of this rule, graphic means explicitly written out and/or detailed.
  • To be more than minimally active, as personal schedules allow.
  • To tag all posts where your character participates, using their community tag.
  • Rules may be edited or added as the need arises.
Any given player is allowed two strikes under this rule system before being escorted out of game. The third strike means an instantaneous banning of that player from this game. All rules are subject to addition, revision, or change as needs arise.
