In regards to your question (and feel free to respond with an answer for this as well): as it is a personal belonging, it would be stowed for the first three months of the Academy and released after the fact. However, you are welcome to have him make an attempt to hide, steal back early, or petition to have it returned early for whichever reasons first occur to him. We welcome these sorts of plotting elements!
The PPDC is fairly insistent about no special treatment without security or psychological reasoning, either of which may also be argued by him in his favor. Would any of these options work?
